Carolyn Alberta Peterman's Obituary
Carolyn Alberta Peterman, 91, passed peacefully in her home, in Longview, on June 17, 2020. She was born May 2, 1929 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Carolyn studied nursing at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa and became an RN in 1949. She continued her nursing career with a B.S. degree from University of Texas, Tyler in 1975, and a M.S. degree from Texas Eastern University in 1977. Her 50 year career in nursing included instructing the first LVN school at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, and setting up and running one of the first home health services in the state of Texas. While working for the Texas State Health Department in the 60’s, she travelled all of East Texas, immunizing public school children, from Paris to Beaumont. She also wrote the manual on Immunization Protocol for the Texas State Health Department. In the 70’s she was the Director of Nursing at the AMA Hospital in Russellville, Arkansas, and later at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa. Ultimately she returned to Texas to close her career, first as a surveyor for the Texas State Health Department, then as a consultant to various Home Health Services and Nursing Homes in the state. In her retirement years she spent time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren telling stories, baking cookies, and generally laughing and cutting up. She made hundreds of blue jean quilts that she gave to family and friends. She also made berets and winter hats she donated to cancer patients and anyone that needed one.
Carolyn is survived by her three sons, David Fisher and his wife Robin of Longview, Steve Fisher of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Bruce Fisher of Longview. She is also survived by her granddaughters Amanda Roberts, Amy White, and Ashleigh Fisher, and one grandson Andrew Fisher; as well as seven great grandchildren, including Abby Roberts who cared for her lovingly the last two months of her life.
She was truly Beautiful, an angel, here for a while, in the world of men.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
