Carolyn "Sue" Mendoza Cline's Obituary
On March 7, 2023, Carolyn “Sue” Mendoza (Cline) passed away at 80 years old. Sue was born to Nathalee and Marshall Cline July 31, 1942 in Evansville, IN, however, her home has always been in White Oak where she graduated in 1961.
Known by many names by her family and friends, some of her most fond nicknames were Ms. Sue, Nannie, Casino Granny and Sue-sue. One of Sue’s favorite pastimes was crafting whether it be making candles, bead projects or homecoming mums. Her favorite of all crafts were the ones she made for “her” football boys. She loved to make beaded necklaces to hang on their lockers and signs of support to hang as well. She never missed a game if she didn’t have to and made sure to be on the field to pray with the football moms club before the game and be on the field after the game to congratulate the team. Along with her unwavering support of the Roughneck football team, she also loved to support the Regiment of Roughneck band that her grandchildren all played in. She asked often to see recordings of past marching contest to reminisce on some her favorite performances. Since her move into a skilled nursing facility, she made sure every faculty member and resident knew that she was a White Oak Roughneck and how much she loved her ‘Necks; she also made sure they knew how much she did not like White Oaks long time rival Spring Hill. That spirt of rivalry even made it to her hospital room during a stay when she found out her doctor was from Spring Hill. She told him he better get out of her room and send someone else. Sue had a great passion and love for all the Roughnecks, but the 2007 Roughneck football team always held a special place in her heart.
Sue was proceeded in death by her Parents Marshall and Nathalee Cline, infant son Thomas Melvin Lockhart Jr. and sister and brother-in-law Marsha Lee and Ronnie Hamilton.
She is survived by her daughters Sondra Lockhart and Rhonda Foster and husband Mike. Also surviving her are her grandchildren and great grandchildren Michael Wooddell and wife Sally – children Elliott and Samuel, Michaela Norwood and husband Johnathan, Marshall Wooddell and wife Mariah – children Guinevere and Royri, nephew William Hamilton and ex-husband Fidel Mendoza along with numerous great nieces, cousins and loving friends.
A Graveside service will be Friday, March 10, 2023, at the Old White Oak Cemetery in White Oak. Public viewing will be held from 5pm-7pm at Rader Funeral Home in Longview Thursday, March 9, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Roughneck Athletic Booster Club, 200 S. White Oak RD, White Oak, TX 75693 C/O White Oak ISD.
Ms. Mendoza’s family would like to extend thanks to Legend Oaks Nursing Home in Gladewater, Tx for the excellent care and love they showed her in her time there as well as Heart to Heart Hospice for the attentive care and comfort they provided in her final days.
