Carmen Lamas

Carmen Lamas passed away peacefully, due to complications of Primary Biliary Cirrhosis an auto immune disease, on August 15, 2015 in Longview, Texas. She died surrounded by her husband and loving children. She was born July 15, 1941 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She was born to a large middle class family, cherished by her parents, loving brothers and sister. She met the love of her life, Jose Refugio Lamas in 1958. They married July 22, 1965, and began their family. Together Jose Refugio and Carmen immigrated to the United States in 1972, braving the unknown to make a better life for their family. The journey brought them to Longview, where they made their home and raised their children. Carmen was foremost a wife and mother, that gave her all to making a home for her husband and children. In addition she was a gifted seamstress, having made dresses for hundreds of quinceaneras, proms, and weddings. She worked at Hurwitz of Longview for 16 years making alterations to fine clothing. Carmen loved openly, and lived life to its fullest. She loved music, dancing, her friends and family. She was foremost a wife, a mother, and grandmother. She was particularly proud of her handsome grandsons and her beautiful granddaughters. They favor her as she was a beautiful woman with great charisma. Left to cherish her memory is Jose Refugio Lamas, her loving husband. Also her children and their spouses; Esther and Marc Bally of Longview; Maria and Frank Weedon of Longview; Lupe Lamas and Carlos Hernandez of Dallas; Carmen and Thomas Bannister of Trophy Club; Francisco and Kelly Lamas of Frisco; Sylvia and Greg Pyron of Keller; and Jesus Mario and Christy Lamas of Whitehouse. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Also remaining are her family in Dallas, the Valley, and Matamoros, Mexico. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, two brothers and a younger sister. Services will be Thursday, August 20 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on 508 N. 6th Street at 2pm. There will be a Rosary for Carmen preceding the service at 1pm at the church. There will be a Wednesday, August 19 between 6 and 8pm at Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
