Carl Day Bailey's Obituary
Carl Day Bailey, 65, of Longview, passed away from this life to be with his Lord on Sunday February 8, 2004 at his residence from a brief illness. Services are scheduled for Wednesday February 11, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas, under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.Officating at the services will be Reverend Eddie Taylor of San Antonio, Texas. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas.
Mr. Bailey was born January 29, 1939 in Orange Field, Texas. He was the son of the Late Walter Carlton Bailey and Ouida Day Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Shirley Bailey, of Longview, and four loving daughters, Carmen McDonnell and husband, Joseph Arthur McDonnell of Jefferson, Texas, daughter, Gina Elaine Bailey, Los Angeles, California, daughter, Christi Wooten and husband Jimmy Wooten of Longview, and daughter, Ginger Bailey of Longview, He was preceded in death in 2002 by his oldest daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Paul of Canton, Texas. He has two sons, Stephen Cullen Bailey and Zachary Edward Bailey, both of Longview.
Mr. Bailey is survived by six grandchildren, Logan and Kennedy McDonnell, Emily and Morgan Paul of Canton, Texas, and Corbin and Piper Wooten of Longview. He was proud of his grandchildren, and they were his special pride and joy.
Mr. Bailey grew up in Jefferson, Texas and he graduated from Jefefrson High School in 1957. He attended Kilgore Junior College and Baylor University. He graduated from East Texas Baptist University with a Bachelor's Degree in HIstory and a minor in music.
Mr. Bailey's first love was music. If he was not singing or listening to his collection of old 78 speed records, he was listening to music on a jam box. Music was a major part of his life and he sang almost daily to his children. He sang with the Houston Grand Opera in the 70's and later participated in the Hosuton Symphony Choral.He served as minister of music at numerous Baptist Churches over twenty years. He taught fifth and sixth grade in Texas for over twenty years.Since his retirement he has spent his life loving his children and schoffering his children to all their school and extracurricular activities. He was a wonderful husband and Dad and shall be missed by all his children, wife, and Princess, the family dog!
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at the funeral home.
