Calvin Bass' Obituary
Clarence Calvin Bass, age 90 of Longview, went home to his Heavenly Father on January 13, 2019. He was born April 7, 1928 in Marvell, Arkansas to James Henry and Norah Tawney Bass. He was the youngest of six children.
Calvin was raised in Marvell, AR and earned his Eagle Scout rank before graduating from Marvell High School. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years stationed in Fairbanks, AL and the Aleutian Islands. Following his military service, he graduated from Tulsa University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He met the love of his life, Lillian Steiner, while working in Dallas. They recognized each other passing on the street and realized they grew up in the same community in Arkansas. He and his wife Lillian founded Bass Engineering Company in 1967 and led the company for 38 years until he retired in 2005. He enjoyed traveling and loved fishing especially on the rivers and lakes near his hometown of Marvell, AR. He enjoyed helping others with projects at their homes and churches. He often volunteered at New Gate Mission, Asbury House Garage Sale, and other local missions. He loved his Lord and was a long-time faithful member of Greggton United Methodist Church.
Calvin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lillian Steiner Bass; his son and wife, Jim and Debby Bass of Longview; daughter and husband, Susan and Kevin Gordon of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Brian Bass and his wife Bonnie, Michael Bass and his wife Nicole, Anna Brown, and Lisa Bass; sisters-in-law Clara Bass and Ann Palmer; brother-in-law Robert Steiner; many nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl Bass and Carl Bass; three sisters Virginia Bourke, Pauline Lucas, and Lucille Bass.
Visitation will be at Radar Funeral Home on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Greggton United Methodist Church on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Rosewood Park.
Memorial contributions can be made to Greggton United Methodist Church Memorial Fund at 1101 Pine Tree Rd, Longview, TX 75604.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the kindness, thoughtfulness, and comfort offered by friends and well-wishers. We also offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to the caregivers and nurses, especially Allison Morgan, Craig Morgan, Patti Wright, Phyllis, Joyce, Sherri, and Trina who provided Calvin and his family with loving and compassionate care for the past two years.
