Callie Mae Stovall Bloomberg
Funeral services for Callie Mae Stovall Bloomberg, of Longview, will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Rd. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Gladewater. Callie was born January 21, 1922 in Kirbyville, TX and died December 8, 2011 in Longview, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents Lydia Gibson Stovall and Charles Green Stovall, and her two sisters, Alice Eastland and Jewel Citty.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
After graduating from Gladewater High School in 1939 she moved to Tyler to work where she met her husband to be, John E. Bloomberg. When he returned from WWII they married June 17, 1945 and moved to his home in Minnesota. After a successful business career as a homebuilder and developer and raising three children, Margaret, Charles and Nancy, they moved to Longview in 1975, where they enjoyed many years together until John's death in 2002. They also built a lake house on Bob Sandlin Lake in 1980 where they relaxed with family and friends.
Callie was a strong Christian all her life and her influence is especially seen in her family. She enjoyed affiliation with the Needlework Guild in Minnesota. She and John were charter members of the Richfield Church of Christ in Richfield, Minnesota. She actively taught Bible classes there, both to children and the ladies and she was known for providing homemade cookies for the entire Vacation Bible School.
After moving to Longview in 1975, she was a member and held several offices in the Longview Study Club and the Federation of Clubs. Callie renewed many friendships at the Gladewater Former Students Association annual reunions. She was a strong supporter of the Alzheimer's Association and was recognized by them in 2010 as their Honorary Chairman of the Walk to End Alzheimer's. She was a member of Pine Tree Church of Christ.
Callie is survived by Margaret and David Harris of Longview, Charles and Mary Bloomberg of Grapevine, Nancy and Craig Baugh of Berlin, Germany, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, nephews Robert Eastland, Charles Eastland and David Citty as well as many other friends and relatives.
The family wishes to thank those who provided such loving service to her in her last days – Emeritus at Eastman Estates, caregivers from Right At Home, Pine Tree Lodge Nursing Center and Texas Home Health Hospice.
