C. E. “Gene” Walker
Carl Eugene “Gene” Walker passed away peacefully on his 86th birthday on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in Bedford, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, in Rosewood Park Mausoleum Chapel, Longview, TX under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation is Friday, March 18, from 6 pm – 8 pm at Rader Funeral Home, Longview and Saturday, March 19, from 1 pm – 2 pm at Rosewood Park. Gene was born March 9, 1930 in Lynn County, TX to Carl B. and Opal Roberts Walker. He grew up on a farm in Sidney, TX and graduated from Sidney High School in 1948. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1952 with his B.S. in Pharmacy. He served honorably in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 in Greenland and Greenville, MS. While stationed in Greenville, he met and married his beloved wife of 50 years, Carolyn Rae Parker. Gene and Carolyn moved to Longview in 1962 and raised two children, Jennifer and Mark. He was a registered pharmacist and part owner of T & H Pharmacy until 1992. He continued to work as a registered pharmacist at T & H Pharmacy until 2011, when he retired just before his 80th birthday. He served multiple generations of families during his years as a pharmacist, and he appreciated the loyalty and support from his customers throughout his long career. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn; and his brother, G. L. “Larry” Walker. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jennifer Walker Tompkins and husband Brian of Bedford, TX; son Mark Walker and wife Karen of Tinley Park, IL; his grandchildren Meredith, John and Matthew Tompkins and Sienna and Amanda Walker; nieces Kay Walker Hudson, Charlotte, TX and Barbara Heetderks, Dallas. The family would like to thank the staff of Parkwood Healthcare Community for their loving care and support of Gene (Carl) this past year.
