Burton LeVerne Brumley's Obituary
Burton L. Brumley exchanged this earthly life for an eternal one May 28, 2011. After a 10 year battle with dementia and Alzheimer, his eyes now see the unbelievable. His hearing is perfect and his mind no longer strains to understand or communicate his love.
He was the only son of Willie Bryant and Minnie Brumley of Mt. Zion, La. He was born July 6, 1924 and worked his father's farm until he graduated from Many High School in 1942. After graduation he quickly joined the Army Air Corp and served his Nation during WWII as a Belly Gunner on B-14's and B-17's until the end of the war. In 1944, he met and married Eloise Oden from Mansfield, La and immediately went to Letourneau College to play basketball and become a Mechanical Engineer. He then worked for Marathon Letourneau for 42 years as both Service and Parts Manager.
He was man of integrity. He would not compromise his faith in God or his love for his family. He lived James 1 before his children and Church. He acted out his faith whether as a Little League Coach, SS teacher, RA leader or Deacon at Oakland Heights Baptist Church. He felt his greatest calling and ministry was with the Church Nursery, where he loved and prayed for the 2-3 year old babies for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise, of 67 years, four children, Gloria and John Bowman of Longview, Michael and Georgia Brumley of The Woodlands in Houston, Ken and Judy Brumley of Tyler and Judy and Marvin Walton of Diana. His nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and were the love of his life.
Services will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview on May 31st at 2:00 PM with a family graveside service following. The Brumley Family will receive friends at 1:00 PM before the service. The family request that any memorial donations be given to the Gideon Bible Association.
