Bruce Pennington's Obituary
John Bruce Pennington, 64, of Longview, formerly of Colorado Springs, CO, was born on September 30, 1956 in Morgan City, LA. Bruce graduated high school from St. Paul’s College Preparatory School, then attended North East University of Louisiana in Monroe. There he acquired a degree in Musical Theory and met his wife, Laura McKnight.
After graduating from college Bruce pursued his musical career by joining the Air Force. He was stationed in Kittery, Maine, Montgomery, AL, and Colorado Springs, CO, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Bruce’s passion in life was his music. He was an accomplished jazz pianist. He was the captain of the Falconaires Air Force Academy Jazz Band. In addition to his military career, he was a member of the National Piano Guild. He was a well-known jazz pianist among the music scene in Colorado Springs; leading his own band, The Bruce Pennington Trio. He also taught piano at Colorado College and became a professional piano tuner.
During his military and music career he was diagnosed with cancer. He was medically retired from the Air Force as a Master Staff Sergeant after 25 years of service. He remained steadfast to his calling despite his struggle with cancer.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Laura M. Pennington; his mother, Mildred Pennington/Johnson and his father, John Franklin Pennington.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Logan Alexander Pennington; and his sisters, Tina Marie Taylor and Pamela Sue Scarborough.
Bruce was a connoisseur of all things Louisiana and loved his Colorado home; where he cycled, hiked and jogged every day he could.
He will be missed by his friends and family and all those who appreciated his musical gift.
