Brenda Sue Merriman's Obituary
Brenda Merriman, age 72, passed away on Sunday, May 7th, in her home in Longview, Texas, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born on March 20, 1951 in Markham hospital in Longview, Texas along with her identical twin sister, Glenda. Each weighed less than a pound and were the first babies placed in an incubator at the hospital. Whether they would survive was questionable but both Brenda and her sister survived and undoubtedly this was where her strength and determination developed.
Her parents were Charles F. Barnard and Marcella A. Yarbrough.
Her family attended Calvary Baptist Church and she became very involved in the youth program. She enjoyed singing in the youth choir in the church as well as on numerous choir trips. She came to know the Lord Jesus at the age of fourteen.
She attended school at Spring Hill School in Longview. While in high school, she and her sister were co-head cheerleaders where they cheered the fans with enthusiasm.
She was known for her infectious smile, energy, and eagerness to help others. Also, while in high school, she was elected Class Favorite, Homecoming Duchess, and Football sweetheart.
Upon graduation from high school she attended Kilgore College.
She met the love of her life, Larry Merriman, in 1984 and they were married on October 11, 1986. She worked with him as his legal secretary and her assistance was invaluable.
She had a calming influence on “her boss” that was definitely needed in many cases. Her passion was helping other people.
After retirement, she became very involved in the Pilot Club and loved her time of service there. Her hobbies included vacationing and spending time with her granddaughter and husband, whether at the beach or on a cruise. She also enjoyed sculpting and showed a unique talent for this art. We have her sculpture pieces to treasure and remember her.
She is survived by her husband of thirty-seven years, Larry Merriman, along with her daughter, Robin Watkins, and her husband, Joe; their granddaughter, Payton Watkins; stepchildren, Charlie Merriman; Rachel Merriman; her twin sister, Glenda Ferrell, and husband, Gene; several aunts and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Brenda’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20th, at 2:00 pm at Rader Funeral Home. There will be no viewing or graveside.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parkinson’s research.
Thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice for their love, care and compassion during these last few weeks.
