Brad Nelson's Obituary
Services for Pastor Brad Nelson, 65, of Summerfield United Methodist Church in Longview will be 10 AM Monday, December 22, 2008 at Summerfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeff Hastings officiating. Brad passed away Wednesday evening. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday at Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Brad was born on December 6, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Robert and Doris Nelson. After an earlier career in banking, he opened Brad's Hardware in Alief, TX. He then attended St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO. Brad served in various Texas districts for a number of years and currently served at Summerfield United Methodist Church of Longview. He was an avid duck hunter, fisherman, gardener, but his first love was serving the Lord.
Pallbearers will be Bill Drennan, Buddy Owles, Tom Hunt, W.A. Cook, Gary Davis and Don Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Cheney, Thornton Tarvin, and Alan Cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dawn Nelson; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Jo and Ron Cheney of Boling, TX; Bonnie's mother, Joanna Jack Nelson; granddaughters, Emily and Kate Cheney of Boling, TX; sisters, Sheryl Doris Nelson of Dallas, Cindy Ann Pou of Cleburne, TX, Janine Margaret Davis and husband Gary of Friendswood, TX, and Marcia Kay Cook and husband W.A. of Livingston, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to Summerfield United Methodist Church.
