Bob Motley Lloyd's Obituary
Bob Motley Lloyd, 72, a lifelong resident of East Texas, died peacefully surrounded by his
family on October 29, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 1, 2001, at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rt. Rev. Don Wimberly and the Rev. Robert J. Babb officiating. Graveside services at a later date will be held following cremation with the Rev. Dr. Michael Carter Macey officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.at Rader Funeral home.
Bob Motley Lloyd was a descendant of pioneer East Texas families. He was the son of the late Sidney and Hortense Motley Lloyd, and the eldest grandson and namesake of Robert Anderson Motley and Ora Barksdale Motley, all of Overton. His maternal grandfather, Mr. Motley, affectionately known as ''Mr. Bob'' throughout Texas, was a
major contributor to the development of the East Texas oilfield, and the discovery well in
the Overton westward extension of the field was named the Motley #1.
Bob Lloyd was a 1946 graduate of Overton High School. He attended Virginia Military Institute and was graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1950. At S .M.U. he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After graduating from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1952, he entered the armed services as a JAG officer. Upon leaving the service, he began his private law practice in Henderson, Texas, specializing in oil and gas law. While in Henderson he was very active as a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. After moving to Longview in 1992, he became a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church.
A founding member of Peoples State Bank of Henderson, he served as Chairman of the Board for 20 years. He actively participated in the oil and gas business with interests in ranching, cattle and real estate. He was an astute collector of fine arts and antiques, having
traveled extensively throughout the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan Kelley Lloyd, his sister Rachel Lloyd Watson, and his aunt Nelle Motley Oliver. He is survived by his wife, Betty Robbins Davis Lloyd; his sons, Kelley Sidney Lloyd of Dallas, and Don Parker Lloyd and wife Corien Kuhl Lloyd, and grandchildren, John Alec Lloyd and Shelby Marie Lloyd of Anthony, New Mexico; and his aunt,
Mrs. John L. Pope of Overton. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Elizabeth Joyce Davis Franz and Jimmy Lee Franz of Sanger, Tx; Charles Robbins Davis and Pamela Smith Davis, and step-grandchildren; Charles Robbins Davis, Jr., Wesley Christine Davis and Mary Brooke Davis
of Longview.
The family requests that those who desire to do so may make contributions to the Lloyd Memorial Fund, c/o Trinity Episcopal Church, 906 East Padon, Longview, TX, 75601, where a bronze statue in memory of Bob Motley Lloyd designed by Dorothy Robbins Kennedy will be located in the All Saints Memorial Garden; to the Trinity School of Texas or to a charity of your choice.
The pallbearers will be; Dr. William Davis Northcutt III, Charles Oscar Thomas,
Wallace Ewing Adams, the Rev. Dr. Michael Carter Macey, James Basil Heinz, Jack Loyce Phillips, David Daniel Boren, Charles Robbins Davis, Jr. and John Alec Lloyd.
