Blou Powell's Obituary
Funeral services for Blou B. Powell, 97, will be held on Friday March 28, 2025, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home at 10:00 AM. Mrs. Powell passed away during the late evening hours of Sunday, March 23, 2025, in Pearland, Texas.
Blou was born in Corsicana, TX on October 22, 1927, the middle daughter of three, to parents JM and Maggie Lou Beard. Blou attended Gladewater High School graduating in May of 1945. After graduation, she attended Kilgore College from 1945 to 1946 focusing on a degree in Liberal Arts. After college, she and George J. Powell married on June 21, 1946 and were married for 37 years.
Blou worked as an employee for the Sun Oil Company in Dallas and Shreveport for over 30 years. Her employment for Sun Oil Company progressed from clerical support until becoming one of the first women Petroleum Landmen in the industry. Through her time working in Oil and Gas, Blou was a full-time artist; truly one of her great passions. She was also a devoted member of the Longview Church of Christ.
Blou was preceded in death by both of her parents as well as her devoted husband George J. Powell, sister Elizabeth (Beth) Graham and sister Marion (Pat) Shepperd. Those left to cherish her memories include her nieces Vicki Bothner and husband Frederick, Shonda Gremillion, Shelly Love and her husband Bob, and Stephanie Garza; her nephews Scott Alan Shepperd and wife Sam, Lee Mark Shepperd and wife Elizabeth, Dan Neal Shepperd and wife Ewa, Corey Ray Shepperd and wife Carrie; as well as her multitude of friends.
