I met Uncle Billy before he was was my uncle at Forest Hill Baptist Church. Somehow he managed to talk me into singing a duo with him at church in front of everybody! He loved to sing! I picked turnip greens for him on cold frosty mornings and prepared them so he could sell them at local grocery stores. This was a new experience for a young city girl. In the spring he planted peas to sell in the summer. The first years he planted in the pea field next to his house, which was the area his father in years past planted his gardens. Uncle Billy always made a point to tell us to come and pick as many peas as we wanted. I have fond memories of picking peas with Bonnie and Louise in the pea field. Too many memories to write down, but I will cherish in my heart the rest of my life. Rest In Peace Uncle Billy. You are singing with angels now.

Betty, I'm thinking of you during this trying time. My prayers and love are with you...Nelwyn Hamill

Very Sorry to learn of Mr. Smelley's Passing. Was Blessed to get to know him in the past couple of years assisting him with his Farmall 140 Tractor and it's Implements. He was a good man and I enjoyed our visits.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Billy. God's Blessings and Sympathies to Betty Jean and the rest of the Smelley Family.
