Billy Michael Mayfield
Billy Mayfield passed away April 3, 2012. He was born August 24, 1947 in Nacogdoches, Texas, son of the late J.C. "Pete" and Agnes Mayfield.
He was a graduate of Pine Tree High School class of 1965 and attended Kilgore Junior College. After graduating from Kilgore College, was employed by Texas Eastman Longview and retired in 1987.
While employed with Eastman he later became a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. After Billy retired with Eastman in 1987, he became a fulltime Deputy Sheriff with Gregg County Sheriff Department and was assigned to Tyler DEA Federal Narcotics as a "Task Force Agent" until 1992, when he chose to become a custom home builder in the East Texas area. Billy built his first home in 1979 for himself along with his father and later joined by his brother Earl. They built a few homes together in the early Eighties.
Billy was an active member with the East Texas Builders Association ETBA and served as President in 1997. He was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church. Billy never met a stranger and always made you laugh. He enjoyed anything outdoors; boating, 4 wheeling, etc. as long as it was not "cold as a frog".
He is survived by his son, Cullen Mayfield of Harleton, Texas, brother, Earl and wife Georgia Mayfield, of Tarpon Springs, Florida; nephews, Brian Mayfield, Pembroke Pines, Florida and Brandon Mayfield, Holiday Florida, great nieces Alexandra and Michelle Mayfield of Pembroke Pines Florida and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: J.C. "Pete" and Agnes Bobo Mayfield.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held Friday, April 6th at 1pm at the ETBA Event Center 2023 Alpine Road, Longview Texas.
The family requested that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to ETBA Scholarship Fund.
