Billy John Hunt's Obituary
A celebration of life service for Billy John Hunt, 81, of Henderson, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Bill Kuykendall and Rev. Calvin Hancock officiating. Burial, with masonic graveside services, will be at Strong Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at the funeral home.
Bill, beloved Husband, Daddy, and Pop went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2011, from his home after a lengthy illness. He was born May 8, 1930 in Rusk County and was the only child born to Jewel and Delma Hunt. He attended schools in New Salem, Henderson and graduated from Laneville in 1948. He married Dorothy Parker, his high school sweetheart on October 11, 1948. They lived in Houston and then settled in Angleton, Texas, where he was employed by Dow Chemical from 1951 to 1981. He held many titles from operator, foreman to safety director as a DOW employee. He retired home to Henderson and later managed Moore Supply before retiring again after 14 years. He served in the National Guard as a medic during the Korean War. He was a member and trustee of Calvary Baptist Church for 21 years. Bill is most remembered by family, friends and medical staff for his willingness to share jokes and keep everyone smiling.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jewel Hunt Lee; two babies, Bette Diane Hunt, and Chris Hunt; stepfather, Ike Lee; parents-in- law, Conrad J. and Sallie Gossett Parker; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law :Delmer and Christine Parker, Margie and A. J. Jordan; Ruth Smith; "Sister"
and Charlie Holland; and Donald McLain.
Survivors include: wife of 62+ years, Dorothy Parker Hunt; son, John Randall Randy Hunt and wife, Jamie, Pearland, TX; daughters: Paula Hunt Sweeney and husband, Craig; Penni Hunt Munroe, all of Henderson; six grandchildren - Natalie Hunt Mahan and husband, Patrick , Lexington, KY; Dotti Linnette Sweeney, Henderson; Nevin Hunt Morales and husband, Jon, Pearland, TX; Josh Hunt Singleton and wife Lauren, Henderson, TX; Parker Hunt Sweeney, Colorado Springs, CO; and Hunter Lee Singleton, Henderson, TX; one great granddaughter born in March, Sloan Rhyder Morales, Pearland, TX; one special sister-in-law Jonell McLain, Bonham, TX; and numerous family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be nephews: Danny Jordan, Johnny Glasscock, Dewain Webb, Thurman Hutto, Jr., Richard Todd, and Charles Killion.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and nieces. Kelly and Sandra McLain, Janie and Ray Lum, Eddie and Linda Jordan, Linda and Greg Gooding, Robert and Jimmie Holland, Nancy and Wayne Utzman, Caroline and Eddie Green.
