Billy James Harper's Obituary
Billy James Harper, 77, passed away on November 11, 2025. Born on February 5, 1948, Billy was a dedicated family man and a proud Army Veteran, having served as a Specialist 4th Class from 1968 to 1970.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Harper, and his cherished family: Daughters Janet Cook and her husband Nathan, and Karla Bounds and her husband Brad. Siblings Michael Harper and wife Deena, and Cheryl Laughlin and husband David. He was a beloved grandfather to Kennedy Bounds and his wife Anna Claire, Brinkley Bounds, Marley Cook, Noah Cook, and Hudson Cook, and host of nieces and nephews.
Billy's extended family includes his "bonus family": Tina Parker and her husband Jack, Tanya Garner, Trent Garner and his wife Cinthia, Alyssa Garcia and her husband Adrian, Dustin Travis, Peyton Colston and her husband Chris, Kylee Parker, Kaiton Garner, Cameron McDonald, Lorena Garner, Brennan Garner, Anahi Garner, and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Betty Harper, his parents, James and Ruby Harper, and Kale Lindsay.
Billy's life was filled with many passions and hobbies, including traveling, scuba diving, and spending quality time with family and friends. His passion for supporting ministries and helping others defined his character. Known for his ability to fix or repair anything, he was always ready to lend a hand. He was a dedicated employee of Southwestern Bell/AT&T for 30 plus years.
A proud member of Abundant Life Church, Billy's faith was an important part of his life. In keeping with his spirit of care and generosity, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Abundant Life Church or Hospice of Tyler.
Billy's legacy of love, service, and dedication to family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
