Billy Garren's Obituary
Billy Garren better known as Pop or Poppy, of Lake Cherokee, Texas was born on April 22, 1925 in Pottsville, Arkansas to W. F. Garren and Lydia Grace Garren. He grew up in Odessa, Texas where he attended school and later met the love of his life Wille Bee Gibson (Nan).
Pop proudly served in the United States Navy. He was a proud World War II and Korean War veteran. After the military he spent 45 years with Cities Service Oil Company (Oxy USA).
After Pop retired, he took on the full-time position of fisherman, golfer, and hunter. He was also known for his late-night competitive games of cards, dominos, and marbles.
Pop was preceded in death by his wife of 71+ years, Bee Garren (Nan). Also preceding him were his parents, his sister Wanda Schneider, sister Mary Townsend, and many other loved family members.
He is survived by his daughters, Terri Whitehurst and husband Greg of Winnsboro, TX, Brenda Cook and her husband Wayne of Plano, TX, and brother, Roland Reece Garren and wife Ruth.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melinda and Tim Piper, Trisha and Kirk McFarland, Thomas Terrell, and Trenton and Rebekah Terrell. As well as his great Grandchildren, Torin McFarland, Trinity Glover, and Alexis McFarland. And many nieces and nephews.
On January 14, 2021, Pop earned his wings to go see Nan with a soldier's final salute. He is loved and will be missed by many.
Graveside services for Billy Garren will be held Monday, January 18, 2021 at the Mausoleum of Rosewood Park in Longview, TX at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
