Billy Austin Furrh's Obituary
Celebration of life services for Billy Austin Furrh, 83, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral home in Longview. Visitation will be Friday, May 1, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home. Billy peacefully passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at Good Shepherd Medical Center.
Billy was born on March 28, 1932 in Marshall, Texas to Austin and Faye Furrh. He was raised in Henderson, Texas, graduated from Henderson High School and attended Kilgore Jr. College. On December 22, 1953 he married the former Jean Ann Logan of Marshall, Texas. This past December they celebrated 61 years of marriage. Billy was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a Drill Sergeant in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. His work history included Thiokol, Karnack, Texas; Texas Eastman; Petro Lewis Oil Company; and was owner/operator of JA Consulting Services upon his retirement. He was a member of the BPOE and served as Exalted Ruler from 1969 to 1970. He loved to duck hunt, fish, and play golf. He delighted in the time spent with his grandchildren, and looked forward to beach vacations with them every year.
Billy is survived by his wife, Jean Ann; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Steve Foster of League City, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Chris and Mary Jane Furrh of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren Ashley Foster, Brandon Foster and spouse Casey, Whitney Dobson and husband Rob, Logan Furrh and wife Courtney, Abby Jane Furrh; great grandson Theodore Stone Dobson; brother and sister-in-law Tommy and Mary Ann Furrh.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Fredonia, Longview, TX 75601 or Buckner Harbor House Memory Care, 2201 Horseshoe Lane, Longview, TX 75601.
