Billy Keith Baxter's Obituary
Memorial Service for Billy Keith Baxter, 83 of Longview, will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Tuesday, October 13 at 2pm. Billy joined the Lord on Friday, October 9, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Billy Baxter was born on August 18, 1932 to loving parents, Billy Buford and Lois Baxter. Following high school, Billy served this Country faithfully for a number of years in the US Army and was discharged as a decorated military veteran. He attended the University of Houston after his time with the Army and graduated with a Bachelor’s Business Admin in 1964. He married the love of his life, Opal Nadean McElhanon on December 26, 1955. Billy moved with his family to Longview and became an avid walker, on average walking a minimum of 4 miles a day.
Billy was a die hard Longhorn fan his entire life. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, and served on the Vestry and Sunday School Teacher for the church. Billy was above everything else a family man. He loved to cook for his whole family and spend time with his granddaughters, who could do no wrong in his eyes.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Lois Baxter; brother Charles Baxter; sister Jean Cherry; nephews Scotty Cherry and Kim Lawrence. Those left to cherish their memories of Billy include his wife of 60 years, Opal Nadean Baxter; daughter Abby Knoll and husband Will; son Billy Blair Baxter; granddaughters Brooke Ellis and Caty Garcia with husband Travis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
