Bill R. Newman's Obituary
Bill R. Newman, 85, of Harleton passed away on April 16, 2024 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.
Bill was born on June 11, 1938 in Longview, Texas to G.B. and Iva Mae (Golleher) Newman. He grew up in southeast Texas and graduated from Brazosport High School. Over the years, Bill worked for the Cottonbelt Railroad, Roper Motor Company, Brown & Root, then became a merchant mariner and barge captain for Amerada Hess. He lived throughout East Texas, including in San Augustine, where he was involved in local rodeos and trail rides.
In his retirement years, Bill moved to Harleton and established the Circle N Ranch, where he raised cows and enjoyed visits with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He enjoyed buying and selling classic cars, deer hunting, and became a Master Mason and member of the Little Cypress Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Newman, and his brother-in-law Wally Wolters. He is survived by his son Chad Newman and his wife Bethany of San Antonio; sister Pat Newman Wolters of Harleton; grandchildren Erin Newman-Mitchell, Lucas Alex, Abbey Newman, and Elliott Newman, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Harleton Community Center, located at 4335 Community St, Harleton, TX.
