Bettylee McGee's Obituary
Bettylee McGee the lady with the hats went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2003 surrounded by the comfort of her family and loved ones.
Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Z. Younger; father, George Maxwell; stepfather, Royal Younger, and husband, Joseph Eckert McGee.
She is survived by daughter, Gerry Anne Bates; son-in-law, Sheldon W. Bates; son, Thomas Eckert McGee; daughter-in-law, Stephanie McGee; son, Jack McGee; daughter-in-law, Jill; daughter, Jill; adopted daughter, Cheryl McGrede.
Granchildren are ; Brian Bates, Christine Brimley, Tracy Portrey, Aaron McGee, Tyler McGee, Lisa McGee, Melanie McGee, Megan McGee, Katelyn McGee.
Great grandchildren are Brayden Portrey, Madison Portrey, Conner Portrey, Brooke Bates, Paige Brimly, and Peri Brimley.
Bettylee McGee lived a full life, the last part being here in Longview, Texas. Originally born in Los Angeles, California on July 15, 1922, she was a lifetime and founding member of Phi Sigma Alpha. From the years of 1943 - 1945, she served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp.
Bettylee became a very active member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. She's a member and past president of Daughters of the King, Lydia Chapter. Mrs. McGee also served on the altar guild of her church. Her last years and days were full of love being surrounded by her church family.
From writings of her latest thoughts; "Lord, you have given me life beyond my expectations. I've no idea why you have chosen me to live this life, other than I love you with all my heart. I know that one day we will meet face to face~~~Ah, such joy!"
Funeral services for Bettylee McGee will be Noon, Friday, December 19, 2003 at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church with The Reverend Tom Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be sent to The Kings Garden, C/O St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church.
