Betty Jean Duckworth Shirley's Obituary
Betty Jean Duckworth Shirley (Mimi),84, of Gilmer, passed away on Sunday February 18, 2018. She was born on April 9, 1933 in Garrison, TX to Louise and Lester Duckworth. She was married to W.L. “Bill” Shirley for 63 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Shirley; granddaughter, Sara-Catherine Shirley; and brother Thomas Dan Frakes
She is survived by her children, Kathy Rasberry and husband Ron, Vicki Carl and husband Richard, and W.K. “Bill” Shirley and wife Jeanie; Grandchildren, Ronna Oldham, Summer Damuth, Richard “Mac” Carl, Blair Hiett, Loni Admire and Spencer Carl, Stephen Oltman and Paul Oltman, Macy and Abby Oltman; great-grandchildren, Emory and Blaine Oldham, Nancy and Jack Hiett, and Evie and Baron Harper; siblings Joy Jackson, Billie “Pete” Thomas, JoAnn Monts; and beloved pets Tiger and Duke.
Her hobbies included sewing, ceramics, and volleyball. She spent many years volunteering at Longview Regional Medical Center and participated in Senior Friends.
The family would like to thank Henson Home in Bettie, TX, a wonderful place for Alzheimer patients, as well as all the caregivers. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a memorial donation be made to either to an Alzheimer’s foundation or the Hwy. 80 Rescue Mission.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, beginning at 11 A.M. at The Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview with a committal service to immediately follow the service at Rosewood Park. The family will receive family and friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10 A.M. prior to the service.
