Betty Ruth Gray's Obituary
Betty Ruth Lacy Curtis Gray, age 91, was born on May 14, 1918 in Fort Worth, Texas. She died peacefully on December 21st in Longview, Texas. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Charles Gray, her daughter, Bettina Jane Gray, and her mother, Betty Lacy Curtis, as well as her mother-in-law, Maurine Stewart Gray Finch of Longview and father-in-law, Charles Gray of Houston.
Betty is survived by her always loving daughters, Linda Gray McMahon and Judy Gray Bagheri; and Linda's husband, James Michael McMahon and their two daughters, Cristina Jane McMahon Boyle and her husband, Ralph Duncan Boyle, and their children, Masyn, Anna, and Maddie; as well as Emily Stewart McMahon Smith, and Emily's husband, Scott Edwards Smith, and their children, Sutton and Owen; her daughter, Judy Gray Bagheri's husband, Abbas Bagheri and their children, Jennifer and Jon; and beloved friends and care-givers, Patricia Givens and Carolyn Hunter, and Sarah Johnson; and many special friends, especially Linda Persons.
Betty grew up in Fort Worth. She attended the University of Texas, and later worked as a secretary in Chicago, Illinois. She later married Charles Stewart Gray, then a Lieutenant in the Navy and had a wonderful marriage of 45 years, and raised three girls. Dr. Charles Gray had a successful dental practice in Longview. They enjoyed entertaining so many friends in Longview and loved to travel together.
Betty was an active member of First Baptist Church of Longview, where she loved attending and studying God's word with dear friends. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Junior League of Longview, Zeta Tau Alpha Alum Association, American Dental Wives Society, the Garden Club, Foster Middle School PTA President and many other service organizations to which she lovingly gave many volunteer hours.
A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 26, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel, 1617 Judson Road, in Longview, Texas, with Reverend David English officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Park Cemetery.
