Betty Lou Hassig's Obituary
Betty Lou Hassig passed into her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, January 17, 2012. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012, at Longview First Assembly of God Church in Longview, Texas, with Rev. Edgar Ayala and Rev. Randy Carter officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Betty Hassig was born March 12, 1931, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Earl and Ellen York. She married Arthur R. Hassig, June 25, 1949. Over the years they lived in Ohio, Florida, New Mexico, California, and then settled in Longview for retirement. Betty graduated from nursing school in Albuquerque and worked at a local hospital. Due to her love for children, she then became a foster mom, and cared for many babies over the next ten years. After moving to Longview, she continued to work with children at Longview First Assembly, where she worked in the church nursery, until her health declined.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur R. Hassig of Longview, Texas; children, James A. Hassig and wife Jean, of Longview, Texas; Linda L. Traywick and husband Rick of San Diego, California; Gregory J. Hassig and wife Shelia, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Amber Bohanna, Krissy Pockett, Joshua Traywick, Jason Hassig, and Johnnie Hassig; great grandchildren, Hannah and Jaden Pockett; sisters Mary Ellen Hogan of Oregon, and Edith Rowsey of Ohio.
