Betty Lee Pope
Longview - Graveside services for Betty Pope, 76, of Longview will be held at 1:00PM Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Rosewood Park. Betty passed away Sunday February 15th, 2009.
Betty was born on May 7, 1932 in Washington, Missouri. She attended St. Lukes School of Nursing in St. Louis where she earned her RN diploma in 1953. Betty took numerous college courses while living in Japan and Germany with her family and her husband who was an officer in the USAF. She learned to speak both Japanese and German. In 1977, she went back to school and earned a BS in nursing. She graduated with honors from Northwestern State University in Louisiana. She retired from Polly Ryan Memorial Hospital in Rosenberg, Texas in 1988.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, George and Rosalie Pace.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert Pope; daughter, Mary Woods and husband Ted of Benton Louisiana; two sons, Thomas Pope and wife Michelle of San Marcos, Texas, William Pope and wife Pam of Longview; sister Nancy Wright and husband Louis; five grandchildren, Ava and Emma of San Marcos, Reilly, Danny and Alex; of Longview; one niece Chris Stuart and husband Brad of Edinboro, Pennsylvania.
The family would like to thank the staff of Summer Meadows Nursing Home and HeartsWay Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
