Betty was an Iowa farm girl during the depression who aspired to greater things. During World War 2, she got a job with the government in California where she rode a bus with blacked out windows into the desert to work at a facility that involved secret projects. When she lived in Belmond, Iowa, Betty was voted Miss Belmond at the age of 16. She attended and graduated from Iowa State University where she met Albert Leonard Conner and fell in love. At Iowa State she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. Betty and Al married February 16, 1946 and moved to Louisville, KY. They moved fairly often and over the course of their marriage they had three sons in three different states. They settled in Alexandria, LA in 1967. It was there that Betty learned to paint. She had such an appreciation for the beauty around her and had a gift for putting it on canvass. She also had a love for antique dolls, and was a loyal member of the Cenla Doll Club. For many years she was active with the AAUW, and enjoyed playing cards with her Bridge Club. She was also a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Alexandria. She made lots of friends over the years and missed them when she moved to Longview, Texas in 2017.
She is preceded in death by her husband Al Conner, daughter-in-law Ellen Conner and grandson Alan Conner. She is survived by her son Steve of Friendswood, Tx, her son Greg of Alexandria, La, and her son Marty of Longview, Tx along with his wife Debbie; along with grandchildren Vickie Jo Johnson(Doyle), Laura White, Kayla Cantey(Andrew), Trey Conner(Emily), four great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
