Betsy "Jean" Johnston Bazzell's Obituary
Betsy "Jean" Johnston Bazzell, age 96, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024. Jean was born in Longview, TX on November 2, 1927. She was from a family of eleven children, nine of whom lived to be grown. Jean was a lifetime member of Winterfield Methodist Church, graduated from Judson Grove school in 1945, and she received an Associate Degree from Kilgore Junior College. Jean was an accomplished bowler, seamstress, loving mother, grandmother to two, and great-grandmother to eight. She had an adventuresome spirit as a young woman, such as, flying numerous times with her husband piloting the small plane with her children in the backseat. Jean's passion was dancing. Up until 91 years of age, she went dancing every Thursday night without fail. It was amazing that God blessed her with good health for 96 years. Only recently did she admit her age. Prior to that, she loved that people thought that she was much younger. Being able to live in her own home until her last day was such a blessing. Preceded in death by her parents, Oakley Bynum and Lillie Eugenia Webb Johnston, and her son John 'Johnny' Bazzell and her ten sisters and brothers. Jean is survived by her daughter Kandace Bazzell Durst and her husband, John. Two grandchildren, Trent Durst and his wife, Leah, and their daughter Josie; Sydnie Jean Vallery and her husband, Jason, and their children Oakley, Ellie Jean, Andrew, Abraham, Isaac, Isabelle, and Olivia. Funeral services were held at Winterfield Methodist Church with Pastor Kase Kuykendall.
