Bert Edward King Jr.'s Obituary
Bert Edward King, Jr. left this life and entered his heavenly home Saturday, May 6, 2017.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to Celebrate his live on Friday, May 12th, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of Rader Funeral Home.
Bert was born in Blanchard, Louisiana. He had four brothers and two sisters. This includes Frank McManamy of Tyler, Henry King of Dallas, James King of Shreveport, Harvey King, Lillian King of Kilgore and Lois Robinson of Shreveport.
He began his journey in a poor family. His family home had dirt floors. But this wasn't going to stop him. He took courses along with his high school classes to learn how to sell. He learned his basic information and it helped him as he proceeded in life. He loved to make a sale. The preparation and the close were magic to him. If he wasn't selling he took on numerous other jobs along the way. Sometimes two so he could support his family.
In his line of selling he was able to start a business of his own - Final Coat. A painting business for oil field parts. Later he found property to grow his business. On this piece of property were some empty buildings. He decided to put a bar in one of them. Thus began "The Brewery" and later it was called "Bert's Bar".
He moved to Longview in 1992 and married Bobbie Schulte. They enjoyed traveling (by car) and seeing new areas of the country. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a good friend.
If you spoke to Bert, you knew about his dogs (Bo and Ms. B). They were his constant companions. Bert and Bobbie never traveled without their dogs. They brought much love to their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dennis, brother, Harvey; and his parents, Bert Sr. and Alice King.
Mr. King was survived by his loving wife, Bobbie of Longview; son, David King and wife Tatum of Nashville, TN; daughters, Laura Miller and husband Barry, and Monica Levinson and husband Joe all of Cedar Rapids, IA; 4 grandchildren; and 3 brothers and 2 sisters as mentioned above.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of North East Texas or The Pilot Club of Longview Anchor Scholarship Fund in Bert's name. (P.O. Box 2974 - Longview, 75606). Or take a moment to value friendships, love your family, read a good book or tell your children you love them.
