Berneva Thurmond Mayberry's Obituary
Berneva Thurmond Mayberry, known to family and friends and “Bunt” passed away Sunday October 8th in McKinney, Texas at the age of 95.
Berneva was born in 1922 in Pleasant Green Community and attended Ned Williams High School. Most of Berneva’s life was spent caring for others. She was a longtime friend and employee of Elmo and Juanita Penn of Kilgore, Texas. The Penn’s loved Berneva as if she was family. Berneva faithfully cared for Mrs. Penn as a friend until her passing.
Mrs. Mayberry was preceded in death by her mother and father, Artis L. and Lillie P Thurmond as well as her siblings Artis L. Thurmond Jr., Margie Thurmond and Ruby Jean Fleming.
Mrs. Mayberry is survived by her sisters Coltiel Daniels of Houston and Celestine Butler of California; daughter Vivian Jones Johnson of the Colony, Texas, two grandsons; Terrance Harvey Colston and wife Penni of McKinney, Texas and Kevin Colston and Jasmynn of Plano Texas and four great grandchildren, Victoria Caldwell, LaTerra Colston, Christian Colston, Julien Colston and one great-great grandchild, Naviah Colston; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
The celebration of Berneva “Bunt” Mayberry’s home going will be Saturday, October 14th at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd in Longview at 3pm. Reverend Lamar Jones, Officiating Pastor.
There will be a private burial for the family at Pine Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches on Sunday Afternoon.
The family would like to extend a very warm appreciation to two of Berneva’s dear friends, Janice Free and Jane Smith for the love and dedication they have always shown our sweet Bunt. Thank you also for all your help in planning such a beautiful home-going service.
