Rev. Bernel Gene Speir's Obituary
Bernel Gene Speir was born in Clarendon, Texas on April 25, 1931 and he passed away on the day of their 57th wedding anniversary, March 27, 2016 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas at the age of 84. He was a resident of Longview, Texas.
Bernel was the first child of Thomas Lloyd Speir and Helen Maybelle Woolsey. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen Speir, one sister Rhonda J. Garlick of Sulphur, Oklahoma, three brothers, Cecil Speir of Vernon, Texas, Bob Speir of Dallas, Texas, and Leon Speir of Dallas, Texas.
Bernel was associate minister at Life Tabernacle Church. His dedication to his family and to his church were the most important things in his life. Bernel served as associate minister at the church for more than 30 years.
Bernel was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served during the Korean War as a radio operator on the hospital ship the USS Consolation. Bernel enlistment began on Sept 26, 1950 and he was honorably discharged on July 16, 1954 after four years of service.
Bernel worked at Marathon LeTourneau and retired in 1996 after 28 year.
Funeral services will be held at Rader Funeral Home 1617 Judson Rd. in Longview, Texas on March 31, 2016 at 10:00 am with Pastor Randall Bryant officiating. Visitation at the Funeral Home will be on March 30th, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
