Benjamin Bane Johnson's Obituary
Benjamin Bane Johnson, age 89, of Tyler passed away August 25, 2013 at home with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Laneville, Texas to Erwin and Blanche Johnson
November 7, 1923. He graduated from Laneville High School then went on to the University of North Texas where he earned a Bachelor's degree in business.
In 1942 Mr. Johnson enlisted into the US Army and honorably served our country during WWII. Along with other exploits while in the Army Air Corps, he was a pilot flying missions on the C-46 and C-47overseas. Among his many decorations he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. He was honorably discharged as First Lieutenant.
Mr. Johnson entered the banking field and retired from First Federal Savings and Loan in Tyler as Vice President.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mildred Waldron Johnson, his children Julia Abrams and her husband Wade of Longview, Texas and Greg Johnson of Houston, Texas, four grandchildren, Christopher Abrams of New York, NY, Elizabeth Baumgardner and her husband Ryan of Longview, Texas and Emily and Ryan Johnson of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by three sisters, Barbara Scoggins and her husband George of Ft. Worth, Texas, Joan Landt of Denver, Colorado and Jacque Whitten of Hubbard, Texas.
Mr. Johnson's brother, Samuel Johnson, Jr., and his sisters Dorothy Young and Patricia Edwards all precede him in passing.
There will be private family services Friday; August 30, 2013 officiated by the Reverend M. Rhett Ansley of First United Methodist Church of Longview. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
