Ben Talley's Obituary
A memorial service for Ben Talley will be held at the Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas, April 9, 2016 at 4pm. Visitation with the family begins at 3pm.
After a long and valiant fight against colon cancer, Ben Talley, 46, of Hickory, devoted husband, father and son, passed away on April 4, 2016. He was born in Houston, Texas to James and Laura Talley on March 26, 1970. He was a graduate of Jasper High School and went on to the honors college at the University of Houston. He obtained his Masters degree from the University of Texas-Brownsville. After trying out a variety of professions, he landed in IT where he was able to continue his quest for knowledge and 'something new and different'. From organizing and developing IT at Longview High School to working at the Region 7 Service Center and Kilgore College, Ben found an avenue to spark his intellect. As the CIO at Lenoir Rhyne University, he was able to lead by example and earned the respect of many in the profession. He valued his co-workers not only as colleagues but as friends.
He loved the outdoors; especially hiking and climbing mountains. After his illness prohibited much of that, he began to enjoy marksmanship. His wit and humor was unmatched and will be missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 16 years, Cyndy, his daughter Grace, parents James and Laura Talley of Gladewater, Texas, his brother and sister-in-law, David and Rebecca Talley of The Woodlands, Texas, many other nieces and nephews, colleagues and dear friends and loving family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Ben's name to either MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas, Duke University Cancer Center in Durham, NC or to the Hock Family Pavilion (Hospice Care) in Durham.
