Belma Gene Roberts' Obituary
Belma Gene Hall Roberts died suddenly on Sunday, May 6, 2012. The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. She had recently undergone successful surgery to remove a colon cancer and was expected to have a full recovery.
She was born November 12, 1927 in Bloomburg, Texas, and graduated from Atlanta High School at the age of 16. She aspired to a career in journalism and always enjoyed writing and reading. In 1957, she moved to Longview and felt at home. She and her husband chose to move back to Longview after a brief work transfer to Paris, TX, and made it their permanent home.
Ahead of her time, she was always a working wife and mother. Most of her career, she worked as a bookkeeper for a variety of accountants and private businesses. At 62, she retired from the working world and devoted her time to quilting, sewing, and leisure endeavors. She enjoyed country music, especially a good fiddle tune or bluegrass number.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, James E. Bill Roberts. Daughters, Dr. Cathey Roberts of Austin, Texas and Dr. Carolyn Roberts and husband, Morris L. Roberts of Los Angeles, CA. and her beloved dog, Lacey.
Funeral services will be 10 am Friday, May 11, 2012 at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Starr, Rev. Tim Lindsey and Dr. Jim Towns officiating. Burial will be at Rosewood Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 6 until 8 pm.
