Mrs. Barbara Wilder's Obituary
Barbara Jean Wilder, 84, of Longview, passed away September 27, 2015. She was born July 31, 1931, to David Alton Ribble, Sr. and Thelma Mae Harris Ribble. She spent her childhood in Oak Cliff and graduated from Adamson High School.
Barbara is a longtime resident of Longview, living here for over 48 yrs. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob Wilder "Fa", her parents Thelma and Alton Ribble and one brother, David Alton Ribble, Jr.
Barbara was an avid bridge player for over 40 years, playing in several bridge clubs. She also loved to learn and play new games and even started a Kings on the Corner group at Hawkins Creek Assisted Living where she has lived for the last 2 1/2 years. Barbara and her husband, Bob, loved to camp and they pulled their 29' travel trailer to many destinations around the US enjoying nature, friends, family and making new friends along the way. Barbara and Bob became interested in Round Dancing and once mastered, they started the B and B Rounders, bought an old church in Glenwood and named it The Bee Hive. They taught lessons, Barbara choreographed the dances and Bob was the caller. Barbara loved her church and her family. She attended Spring Hill First Baptist church and was a member of The Joy Sunday School class. She would proudly say she was a "Charter Member".She also loved to crochet and would make "scrubbies" and lap afghans for the residents of nursing homes.
Barbara's "Gram's" most precious gift was her family. She is survived by two daughters Gayle Madison and husband Richard of NC, Vicki Fleming and husband Ross of Longview, who lovingly cared for her for the last few years. She has 4 grandchildren Jana Resch and husband Mike of GA, Holly Maddox and husband Derek of GA, Jennifer Dixon and husband Craig of Diana, Jason Fleming and wife Jocelyn of Longview; 6 great grandchildren; sister Carol Mason and husband David of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara's family wishes to give a special thank you to Hawkins Creek Assisted Living 's staff, friends and all of her special caregivers for the loving support shown to them and to Barbara.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Spring Hill First Baptist Church with Brother Wayne Spanhanks officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
