Barbara Jean Summerlin's Obituary
Barbara Jean Summerlin, age 84, of Overton, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born on September 20, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and humor. She was known for her love of people, her laughter and generosity. She loved her family and bragged on her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Barbara had many accomplishments in her life. One of her favorites was her love of being on a horse. Later in life she took this love and talent and started a riding school, “Giddy-up Go” and taught children, some special needs, as well as adults to care and ride the horses sharing her love for them. Including taking kids to compete in rodeos.
Following the death of her husband, Allen, she moved to Oklahoma. There she became active in several organizations. She was active in Oklahoma Home and Community Services, and to help children become productive citizens and learn various life skills.
Barbara enjoyed embroidering and making quilts. She played Mah-jongg in Oklahoma and when she moved to Overton, she organized a group of Mah-jongg players by offering to teach them how to play.
She was active in her church, St. William Catholic Parish in Oklahoma, then moved to Overton where she was active at Tyler Road Baptist Church.
She will be Greatly Missed!
Barbara is proceeded in death by her Parents: George and Velma Butterman, 3 brothers, Robert Butterman, David Butterman and Paul Butterman; Grandson Joshua Stanley and Great-granddaughter Jaylee Rain.
Barbara’s memories will be cherished and kept alive by her sons: George Stanley and Wife Cynthia; Donald Stanley and Rick Summerlin and Wife Lori. She was a proud Grandmother of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Pat Accountius and Husband Jack and Marlyn Balthrope. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was called Uncle Barb by some.
Funeral services for Barbara will be Monday, December 15 at 11am in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson. A time of visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon between 2 and 5 pm.
