Barbara Joanne Owles
Funeral services for Barbara Joanne Owles, 79, of Longview, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m.; Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home 1617 Judson Road. Interment will follow at Summerfield Cemetery on Tryon Road. Mrs. Owles passed into her heavenly home Saturday at a local nursing home after an extended illness. Officiating Reverend Bud Miller, Pastor of Summerfield United Methodist Church, and Reverend David Reeder, Chaplain, Greater Hospice of Texas. Visitation will be held in the Rader Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Joanne was born September 11, 1926 in Provencal, Louisiana, of parents Norma and Andrew Burden, and graduated from high school there, establishing many life-long friendships. During World War II, she worked as a telephone operator in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Joanne and Harry were united in marriage in January of 1946 and made their first home in Longview. In addition to her roles of devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Joanne was employed by Sears as a sales clerk in the infant wear department for 15 years and retired from the City of Longview after 16 years, serving as a municipal court clerk. She also served as Cub Scout den mother, PTA member, church choir member, and countless other roles in raising her family, and enjoyed being a member of the Longview Chapter of Sweet Adolines.
Harry and Joanne were members of Wesley Methodist Church for many years before joining the church family at Summerfield UMC, where they have worshiped since 1971.
Joanne was preceded in death by her mother Norma and step-fathers George Williams and Richard Crowley, and her brother, Voigt Williams.
Survivors include her husband, H. F. ?Harry? Owles, Sr. Longview; sons Roger Owles, Longmont, Colorado; H. F. ?Buddy? Owles, Jr. and wife Ann, Longview; four grandsons, Eric Owles, and wife Diana, New York City; Ray Owles and wife LaDona, Houston; Greg Owles and wife Katie, Tucson, Arizona; Jeff Owles and wife Melissa, College Station; three step-granddaughters, Lynn Ojeda and husband Homero, Plano; Liz Ronning and husband John, White Oak; Rebecca Howell and husband Lonnie, Hallsville;
Nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and large extended family, including special friends, Jack and Mary Cambridge, Sue West, and special school friend, Olgia V. Hines, Glendale, Arizona.
Joanne and her family were blessed by the love and care of the staffs of Whispering Pines Nursing Home and Greater Hospice of Texas, and the prayers, encouragement, and love of their church family at Summerfield UMC.
