Barbara Allen Bell's Obituary
Barbara Allen Hall Bell, beloved mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, cousin, and friend, passed away on February 20, 2026, in her home Longview, Texas, at the age of 90 after a courageous battle with tongue cancer.
Born on October 16, 1935, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Thomas Howell Hall and Mary Allen Peeler Hall, Barbara was raised in Medford, Oklahoma. Growing up in a musical family, she inherited generations of talent and became a gifted vocalist and pianist. She was a cheerleader for the Medford Cardinals and graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class.
Barbara continued her education at the University of Oklahoma in 1958 graduating with a degree in education. A proud and lifelong member—and former beauty queen—of Chi Omega sorority, she delighted in collecting owls, the cherished Chi O symbol.
It was at the University of Oklahoma that she met the love of her life, Austin Holloway Bell, Jr. of Oklahoma City. They married in August 1956 and began a 68‑year journey together, beginning their lives across the eastern United States as Austin advanced in his career. In 1969, the Bells settled in Little Rock, Arkansas, where they lived for 50 years. There they raised their three children: Deborah Allen Bell Willis (Hamilton) of Saint Francisville, Louisiana; Marylu Bell Kilpatrick (Lester) of Longview, Texas; and Austin Holloway Bell III, also of Longview.
Barbara was known for her grace and vibrant spirit. A former model and children’s beauty pageant coach, she brought confidence and poise to everyone she guided. Her faith and her voice found a home in the First Christian Church of Little Rock Sanctuary Choir, and her commitment to service extended to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Society Guild and Angels in the Attic. Friendships flourished through Supper Club and her beloved Bunco Babes, and some of her happiest memories came from the extensive travels she shared with her husband which included many “Music at Sea” cruises. Above all, she delighted in her growing legacy of grandchildren and great grandchildren celebrating each with an overabundance of joy and pride.
Wherever Barbara went, her sparkling blue eyes, radiant smile, and unmistakable wit and sass made her unforgettable.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Holloway Bell, and her brothers, Thomas Howell Hall Jr. of Longview, Texas, and Larry Everett Hall of Belton, Texas. In addition to her children, she is survived by her greatly cherished grandchildren: Katherine Allen Pella (Mark) of Atlanta, Georgia; Caroline Holloway Hollingsworth (Derek) of Louisiana; Madeline Benson Watts (Keith) of Louisiana; Mary Austin Willis of Houston; John Hamilton Willis of Dallas; Aaron Cambridge Kilpatrick (Jordan) of Katy, Texas; Morgan Kilpatrick Vollers (Hans) of Henderson, Nevada; nineteen great‑grandchildren along with numerous beloved cousins and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to First Christian Church, 720 N. Sixth Street, Longview, TX 75601
