Barbara Bartlett Magown Maier
Barbara Bartlett Magown Maier born March 18, 1925, passed away, at the age of 90, on October 25, 2015, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held November 12, Thursday at 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas.
Mrs. Maier was preceded in death by her parents, William Herbert and Mary Helen Bartlett. Sisters, Helen DeVita and Louise Jones, and husband, Adolph Maier.
Her survivors include brother, William Bartlett and wife, Lois; and brother, Rev. Douglas Bartlett and wife, Claire. She is also survived by her son Lloyd Magown, Jr. and wife, Wanda; daughter, Jennifer Calk and husband Jimmy; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Step-children Margaret Fortier, Mary Gravolet, Michael Maier and wife, Janie; Gretchen Avet and husband, Mark; and Jimmy Maier and wife, Karen; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Maier was born in Mt. Vernon, New York and lived in several cities including Washington, D.C., New Orleans, La., and Longview. In 2000, she made a final move back to Longview to enjoy time volunteering, and seeing her children and grandchildren.
She graduated from high school in New Orleans, took college courses at Kilgore Junior College, Wheaton College in Illinois and the University of Glasgow in Scotland. She worked in business administration in Longview and Chicago, Illinois. During W.W. II she volunteered with the USO.
Barbara loved traveling with friends and family, participating in new learning experiences, such as college courses, and reading the great books of the world.
She enjoyed volunteering at museums and was a member of the Pilot Club.

Visitation will be immediately following the 4:00 p.m. Service.
