A precious mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great aunt, cousin and friend to everyone who knew her, Barbara succumbed to her battle with cancer just as she lived her life: with dignity, strength and grace.
Barbara was born in Beaumont, Texas on February 12, 1944 to ML ?Cat? and Lucille Brooks. They made their home in Tyler where she graduated from Tyler High School.
In July of 1962 she married the father of her two children, Tom Dunwoody III and they made their home in Cleburne. She was a community leader and owner of a gift shop where she made another family of friends. After her children graduated she moved to East Texas where she owned and operated the Northeast Texas Credit Bureau. To her employees she was more than just a boss. She was a mentor, a leader and friend.
Barbara was a member of Camille Acres Baptist Church in Longview and also attended and generously donated to her daughter?s church, Crossroads Methodist Church in Kilgore.
Her father, ML ?Cat? Brooks preceded her in death in July of 2004.
Surviving relatives are her mother Lucille Brooks of Longview, daughter Denise Dunwoody of Kilgore, son Thomas A Dunwoody IV of Fort Worth, sister and
Brother-in -law Nancy and Johnny True of Kilgore, grandson Zachary Barnes of Fort Worth, nephew Michael ?Tiger? Thomas and nephew Jeremy Isom and his wife Mindy and their baby Annabelle. She is also survived by the father of her children Tom Dunwoody III of Cleburne.
One of Barbara?s passions was her love for the family cemetery.
