Birth date: Dec 24, 1930 Death date: Jan 5, 2012
My name is,Joel Louis. And I to was a student of Mrs.Buce's in the 5th grade.Over the years,I thought of her from time to time.A friend asked me,"who was the meanest teacher you've ever had?"I told him,my 5th grade teacher,Mrs.Buce.I would cut up in class. She would give me swats. She had a rule.If you didn't have your homework by the time class started, just line up outside of the room.Suffice it to say,I was lined up outside of her room about 3 days a week.lol. I am now 53 years of age,and when I think of her,I remember how greatly she cared for her students, and how kind she was.She used to tell a little,hard-headed black kid,how smart he was,and that he could do better. He only needed to apply himself. That meant so much to me!When I looked her up,I was devastated to find that she had made her transition, although back in 5th grade she seemed to be in her late 30's,early 40's.I never had the chance to thank her,and to let her know how much I truly appreciate she seeing in me what I couldn't see in myself. That is why she is one of the few teachers who has been in my life, who I have remembered, even after all these years.Just being here,on this web site, and reading all of you guys memories of her has shown me that I am far from being the only person whose life she has impacted. And so,with that,I express my eternal appreciation for Mrs.Buce's impact upon my own life, and I extend heart-felt best wishes and condolences to her family, her friends and to everyone who loved and cared for her.Thank you,Mrs.Buce, and may God bless you!
I just learned of Mrs. Buce's passing and I am just so sorry for your loss! Barbara Buce was my gifted n talented teacher in the 5th grade and apparently, she saw something in me that made her take me under her wing. We shared a love for cats and I have such fond memories of sitting with her after class talking about our love of kitties and her helping me with my homework. As I grew up and would be out shopping around town, once in a blue moon, I would happen to run into Mrs. Buce. She ALWAYS remembered me, called me out by my name and would always remind me of some of the cat pictures I had made for her. She touched my life in a way that no other teacher took the time to do, she was hard, she was fair and I am so blessed to have been loved by her. I will forever remember her in my prayers!!!##imported-begin##Angela Clark White##imported-end##
I learned so much from Mrs. Bruce. She pulled me into her gifted and talented class in the early 70's and I have never been the same. What an impact on all that she touched. Will see you soon.

Dear Buce Family,
I was so blessed to have Mrs. Buce as my 5th grade teacher at Mozelle Johnston. She was always so kind and supportive of her students. She took an interest in each student and always seemed to know the right thing to say when someone was down. I have many fond memories of being in her class and am grateful for all she did for me personally during some difficult times. My prayers are with your family during this time.##imported-begin##Mark Markham##imported-end##
