Joel K.Louis
My name is,Joel Louis. And I to was a student of Mrs.Buce's in the 5th grade.Over the years,I thought of her from time to time.A friend asked me,"who was the meanest teacher you've ever had?"I told him,my 5th grade teacher,Mrs.Buce.I would cut up in class. She would give me swats. She had a rule.If you didn't have your homework by the time class started, just line up outside of the room.Suffice it to say,I was lined up outside of her room about 3 days a week.lol. I am now 53 years of age,and when I think of her,I remember how greatly she cared for her students, and how kind she was.She used to tell a little,hard-headed black kid,how smart he was,and that he could do better. He only needed to apply himself. That meant so much to me!When I looked her up,I was devastated to find that she had made her transition, although back in 5th grade she seemed to be in her late 30's,early 40's.I never had the chance to thank her,and to let her know how much I truly appreciate she seeing in me what I couldn't see in myself. That is why she is one of the few teachers who has been in my life, who I have remembered, even after all these years.Just being here,on this web site, and reading all of you guys memories of her has shown me that I am far from being the only person whose life she has impacted. And so,with that,I express my eternal appreciation for Mrs.Buce's impact upon my own life, and I extend heart-felt best wishes and condolences to her family, her friends and to everyone who loved and cared for her.Thank you,Mrs.Buce, and may God bless you!
