Bala Duszik's Obituary
Bala Duszik, 86, of Longview went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 3, 2009. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Longview with Dr. Kenneth Hall and Rev. David English officiating. Interment will follow in Grace Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 -8 p.m. Monday, December 7 at Rader Funeral Home.
Mr. Duszik was born April 7, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio. Orphaned at an early age, he was adopted at age 9 by a loving family.
He served his country in World War II in Europe. He took part in five major campaigns, beginning with the Battle of Normandy, followed by action in Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe, for which he earned five Bronze Campaign Medals.
He came to Longview to participate in R. G. Letourneau?s work/college program earning a degree in Mathematics and Engineering. Upon graduation he began a career in construction in East Texas that extended over 55 years, earning a reputation as a master builder with great integrity and skills. He passed these traits to his three sons in his own ?example and do? training program.
A member of the First Baptist Church he had a true servant?s heart, serving many years as a deacon. He was on the building committee for the Beatty Education Building. Served as usher in the balcony and continued to climb the stairs each Sunday even after an injury created a severe walking problem. His concern for orphans led him to use his skills for 37 years on the annual Mission Trip in supervising the construction/repair programs in orphanages in Mexico. He loved his Sunday School Class led be G. A. Bobo.
Mr. Duszik is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy S. Duszik; sons and their wives, Bala Lee and Sue B. Duszik, Joe and Rhonda Duszik, Steve Duszik and Becky Lummus; grandchildren, Bala Duszik II, Sean Duszik, Will Duszik and wife Kelly, Erin Duszik, Maggie Duszik, Farrah Stone and husband Jason Stone, Tommy Lummus, Terry Lummus and Brenda McCullum and great-grandchildren; Kourtney Mason and Brylie Stone.
Pallbearers will be G. A. Bobo, Stan Glen, Jim Trippett, Bala Duszik II, Sean Duszik and Will Duszik. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Littlejohn and Stacey Littlejohn.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Kathleen Weindorff, Dr. Tom Chow, Dr. Mark Littlejohn, Head ICU Nurse Kelly Cox, and Case Manager Diane Rowe for their special and loving care.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Mexico Mission Trip in care of First Baptist Church, 209 E. South St., Longview, TX 75601; to Buckner Benevolence, 600 N. Pearl, Suite 2000, Dallas TX 75201; or to a favorite charity.
