Austin Leon Humphrey's Obituary
Austin Leon Humphrey went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2022. Born in Kilgore, Texas, in 1939, he was the fourth out of five children. He went to Kilgore High school and graduated in 1957. He married young at 18 years old and soon after, relocated to Longview, Texas.
He was a man of many talents. He was in the National Guard and was stationed at Fort Polk in preparation for the Vietnam War. A list of his accomplishments includes him going to school to learn how to work on small engines where he started his own lawn mower repair shop, working as a fitter/welder for Letourneau, and working for Stroh’s brewery for 30 years. Before retirement, he owned a trucking company where he was blessed to travel the United States.
He loved tending to a garden. Many would say he had a green thumb. Stew was his specialty in the kitchen, but not without his home-grown veggies. He loved his horses, cows, and chickens on the farm that he built for his family. He also loved outer space and always talked about his desire to explore the stars. However, he was brought back down to earth by his love for Old Westerns. He also loved to talk politics and always kept up to date with the current news. He always said that he wanted to live in the middle of 100 acres with biting cows and bucking horses; This was his way of saying that he loved the peace and quiet of country living.
Most of all, he loved his family. He cherished his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His daughters were his pride and joy. He chose to raise them in White Oak and gave them a childhood full of memories and laughter. He was the type of father to go to his daughter’s games at school, even though he didn’t like sports. He always made the time to be there and listened when they needed him, and he always gave the best advice. His daughter, Kelli, passed in 1993 and a piece of his heart left with her that day. His daughter, Pam, passed in 2013, taking another piece of his heart. The last piece of his heart is left with his eldest daughter, here on earth, to be of protection and guidance to her whenever she needs it.
We are sure that he had a joyous reunion at the gates of heaven with his daughters and Jesus by his side.
Austin Leon Humphrey loved God and knew that this earth was a temporary home. He looked forward to his eternity with Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Aline and Herman Humphrey, his sister, Norma Sue Pace, his brother, Loye Humphrey, his sister in-law, Dovie Jones, his nephew, Kevin Jones, and two of his daughters, Kelli Humphrey, and Pam Inglehart. He is survived by his brother Billy Jones, his sister, Rita Hammonds, his sister in-law, Star Johnson, his daughter and son in-law, Tina and Dan McMullan, his nieces, Theresa McBreen, Kim Zapata, Gina Rector, and Laura Humphrey, his nephews, David Pace, and Terry pace, his grandchildren, Jessica and Harry Mahfood, Heather and Bradley Wright, Keaton Inglehart and Justice Griffith and his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Fara, Elizabeth(Gracie), Laura, and Kylea.
