Arvin Redfearn
Funeral services for Arvin Redfearn, 83, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church of Longview with the Reverend Jonathan Jehorek, Dr. W.D. ?Bill? O?Neal, and the Reverend John Noble Redfearn officiating. Interment will be in Omaha Cemetery at approximately 4 p.m. He died Friday evening March 12, 2004 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at the funeral home.
Mr. Redfearn was born July 7, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant to Joe S. and Nellie Lewellen Redfearn, both of whom were descendents of early North Carolina and Texas families. He attended the University of Texas at Austin before entering the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served his country with distinction as a captain and communications officer in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was also a flight instructor and left active service in 1946. After a brief courtship, he married Virginia Taylor Moore on September 7, 1947. They moved to Longview in 1951 where he and his brothers owned and operated Redfearn Brothers Kern?s Bakery, Inc. for more than 20 years. He worked with the Gregg County Adult Probation Department for several years, retiring in 1990.
He was active in the life of the Longview area. He was a Rotarian, a former director of the Longview Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, and was a volunteer with United Way and Meals on Wheels. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 53 years, and formerly served as a Deacon. He enjoyed playing golf and was a Life Master of Duplicate Bridge player.
He was an honest man. He filled his niche and accomplished his tasks?. He looked for the best in others and gave the best he had. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Redfearn was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Everet, Dick, and Noble Redfearn.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Virginia Redfearn of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Karen Redfearn of Kansas City, MO.; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and James Oliver of Marble Falls, TX.; grandchildren, Julie Parker, Laurie Parker, and David Taylor Redfearn and his wife Sheri; great granddaughter, Carolyn Parker Hileman; brother, James Redfearn of Longview; and many relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Reverend John Noble Redfearn, Joe Garrett Redfearn, Benny Joe Redfearn, Scott Redfearn, Patrick E. Redfearn and Dr. Lloyd Legg. Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Tillery, Dr. Henry C. McGrede, Phil Smith, Harold Turner, Steve Chionsini, Jack Curtis, Gilbert Pool, and Lewis Hoffman.
