Arthur J. French
Services for Arthur J. French, 85, of Longview, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church, his church home for 30 years. Pastor Tom Roberson and Brother David Lawson will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. French passed away peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on June 8, 2009. Art was born on July 8, 1923 in Catahoula Parrish, LA to Jacob Henry and Myrtle Mae French. Affectionately known as ?Granddaddy?, he will be remembered as a quiet, private man with a pleasing dry, witty humor. He lived all of his life by the Holy Scripture, ?Let your words on earth be few.? Art served his country in the Air Force during World War II from 1941-1949. Just as he loved his God and his family, he also loved his country. The country?s flag was always flown at his home. He worked at Chevron Oil Company as an accountant for over 30 years. He was a loyal and dedicated employee. He met and married Margaret Edwards and her two daughters, Beverly and Greta in 1948. He immediately became ?Daddy? to her girls, who loved and adored him. He became the ?Daddy? he didn?t have to be. Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Margaret. He is survived by his two daughters, Greta Curtis and her husband Fred of Longview, TX and Beverly Byrd of Sugarland, TX; his brother, Verlows and his wife Lena of Alexandria, LA; and his sister, Meda Domite of Marksville, LA. Survivors also include his four grandchildren, Don Curtis of Longview, Dan Curtis and his wife Ann of Houston, Binger Dudjak and her husband Scott of Sugarland, and Tracee Davis and her husband Jeff of Missouri City, TX; three great grandchildren, Kennedy Dudjak, Rylee Davis and Fynlee Davis; two nephews, Darwin Stephenson of Longview and Stephen Wertheimer of Greenwich CT. The family extends very special thanks to Jennifer Roberts and her daughter Logan. Jennifer was Art?s caregiver who loved and nurtured his as if he were her grandfather. He also came to love her as one of his own. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Heart?sWay Hospice, 1306 Pine Tree Road, Longview, TX 75604.
