Arthur Hill's Obituary
Born in Hollis, Oklahoma on June 18, 1925, Arthur Lewis Hill was one of 13 children born to William and Viola Hill. Shortly after he was born, the family moved to a small community in East Texas.
He left this area in his late teens for Houston, where he was inducted into the US Navy in September 1943. He served as Seaman First Class on the USS Colorado battleship during WWII. He was honorably discharged in May 1946 and began his life as a civilian.
Lewis met the love of his life on a blind date, Dorothy Cathey, and they were married in July 1950. Their twosome expanded to a threesome three years later with the birth of their first son Jimmy. The family expanded again in 1957 with a second son Jody, and again in 1966 with the addition of a daughter Lisa. Lewis and his family lived in various cities in West Texas, but finally settled in Henderson, Texas in the early 1970s where he lived until he moved to Longview in 2017.
He worked mainly in the grocery business in various cities and with various companies. When not working, he spent his time with his family. He was a hardworking, devoted, and loving husband and dad who had an awesome sense of humor. He was a Master Mason of the Clinton Lodge No. 23 in Henderson, Texas for over 68 years and was also a member of the Texas Cherokee.
Lewis left this earth on August 6, 2023, at the age of 98. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his 12 brothers and sisters, and his parents. Those left to cherish the memories Lewis made include his son Jimmy Hill and wife Rachel of Longview, Texas, his son Jody Hill and wife Jamie of Katy, Texas, his daughter Lisa Blondrage and husband Andy of Longview, Texas, his step grand-daughter Kim Handley and her husband Chris of Lubbock, Texas, his grandson Josh Hill of Katy, Texas, his grandson Tyler Blondrage of Longview, Texas, his grandson Logan Blondrage of Longview, Texas, his three great grandchildren Grant, Landon and Keaton, his sister-in-law Cathy, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. We gain comfort in the knowledge that he is now with our Heavenly Father, and has been reunited with his wife, his brothers and sisters, and his parents.
Lewis will be buried at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with his wife. Service arrangements are being handled by Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. The burial will be on Monday, August 21st at 9am. Anyone attending the service should be at the cemetery entrance gate by 8:15 to get in line in their car prior to entering the cemetery together. Since the National Cemetery limits the grave site flower arrangements to two, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Lewis in leu of sending flowers. The Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery is located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas, Texas (https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/dallasftworth.asp).
