Arthur Dale Baker's Obituary
Services for Major Arthur Baker, USAF, will be 10 AM Friday, July 29, 2005 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, 1617 Judson Rd. in Longview with Rev. Bobby Moore officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Rosewood Park Cemetery. Family visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Thursday, July 28th at the funeral home.
Arthur Baker, the oldest son of Arthur M. and Hazel Granberry Baker, was born July 30, 1933 in Teague, Texas. Arthur graduated from Pittsburg High School and in 1954 he joined the United States Air Force. On April 7, 1965 shortly after transfer to Bien Hoa Air Base while serving combat duty in the Vietnam War, Major Baker was listed as MIA. Available evidence has established that Major Baker died in Xiangkhoang Province, Laos on 7 April 1965 when his B-57B crashed.
He is survived by his daughter, Valaree Baker-Barger of Longview; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a brother, Davy Baker of Liberty City; a sister, Susan Baker Powell of Allen, Texas; an uncle, Robert Granberry of Ft. Worth and several nieces and nephews. He has been joined in death by his parents; a daughter, Melodie Susan Baker, and an aunt.
It?s been forty long years. It will be 40 years, 3 months, 22 days, and close to the hour?and he will finally be laid to rest in his homeland that he loved and served so well.
