Archie Lynn Young's Obituary
Archie Lynn Young, 86, was called back home by his Heavenly Father on September 6, 2010. Archie was born on December 25, 1923 in Dallas. Archie proudly served our country as a member of the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Eva Rae Helton on January 18, 1946. He was a wonderful husband for 58 years. They had one daughter, Karen Lynn Young, born in April, 1959. They lived and worked in Dallas, Texas until 1966 when they relocated to Carthage. He worked for and eventually ran and shared ownership of Drew Woods, Inc. For over 32 years, and retired in 1989. During this time he also served for 12 years as a member of the Board of Directors at Kilgore National Bank. He moved to Longview in 1999, to be closer to all his family, and to better care for his wife who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He lived at Buckner Westminster Place all during this time. He has made and lost many wonderful friends during his time there.
He has one beautiful and precious granddaughter, April Lynn Anderson, who is the pride of his life, and he is her hero. He inspired her and loved her more than life itself. She is the daughter of Karen and Steve Anderson, who all reside in Sugar Land, Texas. He spent the last few weeks of his life at Select Specialty Hospital here in Longview, and he touched so many lives while he was there. The people that cared for him were so amazing and caring. They all grew to love him during his time. I will never be able to thank them enough for caring and growing to love my Dad during his last days here on earth. Archie received his Civil Engineering degree in 1954 from Southern Methodist University and was an active engineer up until his recent death. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carthage and Longview.
Archie was preceded in death by his wife, sister, and parents.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mr. Young is survived by his only daughter and son-in-law, Karen Lynn and Steven Anderson of Sugar Land; only granddaughter, April Anderson of Sugar Land; one brother, Kenneth Young of Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
