April Lynn Watson's Obituary
April Lynn Watson
April went home to be with her Lord on January 3, 2024. April was born to Charles R Frederick, Sr (Buck) & Judith Anne Hellman Frederick (Judy) on April 23, 1962. April was the 4th of 6 children. She grew up in and around the Kilgore area. She was a 1980 graduate of Kilgore High School. April married the love of her life, Nathan, in 1980 and they shared 42 years together while raising two wonderful sons, Joshua & Jathan. Her boys were truly the apple of her eye, and she devoted her life to being involved in all the activities they were interested in to enrich their lives and support them in every available way. No one ever doubted how proud she was of “my guys” as she called them.
April’s servant heart led her to St. Luke’s Methodist Church where she served and worshipped most of her adult life. She was a regular Sunday School attendee and always enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of her Sunday School classmates. She worked tirelessly in the Pumpkin Patch, Youth Program, Wednesday Night Children’s Programs & VBS. A favorite saying of hers was “we’re doing the Lord’s work.”
April retired from Chandler Elementary School in 2023. Throughout her career, she was always conscious of the influence she might have on young children and tried her best to make sure the influence was positive. Her sunny smile and warm heart touched many a child throughout her tenure in the Kilgore ISD School system.
April was a member of the XI Alpha Delta Omega Sorority and worked hard to bring relief to the families in Kilgore this Chapter served.
April began working with the Boy Scouts of America (Cub Scouts) when her boys were little. She spent over 20 years in the program serving in many capacities, eventually training the leaders on how to be leaders in this area.
April never did anything in small measure, when she joined the PTA, she jumped in with both feet up to her waist! She worked and worked for the children of Kilgore, the parents who raised them, the teachers who taught them and the school administrators who directed them. She eventually worked her way up to Area PTA Officer.
April was an AVID crafter; she could see something and recreate it – many times better than the original was. It was amazing how many things she could do with a popsicle stick!
After the death of her great niece, Alexis Faith, April became heavily involved in the Kilgore Relay for Life and worked diligently to fund raise for this worthwhile organization.
April is survived by, son, Joshua Watson (Britnie) and son, Jathan Watson; grandchildren, Parker & Leigh Watson, Kaidin Minor; brother, Mark Frederick; sister, Cindy Frederick, sister, Babette (Babby) Carroll (Bruce), sister, Debra Sanders (Toady); sister in law, Lavida Maxwell (Larry); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles.
April was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Watson, parents, Buck & Judy Frederick and brother, Chuck Frederick.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate April and the gift she was to us all will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Kilgore, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 to 11:00am and the service will begin at 11:00am in the Sanctuary of St. Luke’s Methodist Church with a private family interment following. All are encouraged to wear GREEN to the service. As April always said, “Green is mine and God’s favorite color, look around you at all the green – He must love it too!”
