Annie Pearl Cobb Dyess
A memorial service for Annie Pearl Cobb Dyess, 93, of Longview will be held at 1:30 pm Friday April 4, 2008 at Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Dewayne Beaty officiating and Claudia Beaty assisting.
Mrs. Dyess died on Monday March 31, 2008 in Longview.
Mrs. Dyess was born April 5, 1914 in Upland, Union, County, Arkansas to Lee Wharton Cobb and Nettie Akien Cobb. She and her family moved to Longview in 1931. She graduated from Longview High School in 1933 as a member of the first class to graduate from the newly built Longview High School on Whaley St.
Mrs. Dyess graduated from Mary-Hardin-Baylor College in 1937, earning a bachelor degree in speech and drama and a minor in English. While at Mary-Hardin-Baylor, she was elected to membership in the Royal Academia Society, an honor society, and Alpha Psi Omega, an honorary speech fraternity. She returned to Longview and taught second grade at Ward Elementary School. On August 4, 1939 she married James Haughton"Haughty" Dyess.
Mrs. Dyess and her family were longtime, active members of Wesley United Methodist Church. For the last 35 years Ms. Dyess had been a member of First Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday School Class. She enjoyed studying the Bible, reading, playing Bridge, shelling pecans and spending time with her family. She found great joy in being a wonderful, loving and supportive grandmother to her only grandchild, Rachel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her huband, and her brother Fred Tatum Cobb.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Donald Connors; her granddaughter, Rachel Elizabeth Connors; one niece and her husband, Barbara and Herman Williamson of Shreveport, La.; one nephew and his wife, Lee and Janna Cobb of Grapevine; a sister-in-law and her husband, Dannie and James martin of Allen; one great-nephew Josh Cobb of Washington, D. C.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of Heart's Way Hospice, especially Deborah Crager, R.N. for their care and concern shown to Mrs. Dyess.
